QUEBECERS AND ALCOHOL

Encouraging surveys Every five years since 1991, Éduc’alcool has polled the people of Quebec. The answers gathered during these telephone surveys produce a gold mine of information.

Studies show that, over the last 20 years, Quebecers have been drinking not only less, but better. The culture of drinking to get drunk is being replaced by the culture of quality and enjoyment.

Whatever the occasion, alcohol is likely to be present, but overall, Quebecers have a healthy relationship to drinking.

Problems we need to address

  • More damage is caused by people who get drunk occasionally than by chronic drinkers ;
  • 15 to19-year-olds are the only age group that has shown no change in drinking habits in the last 30 years ;
  • 40% of the time, when young people drink, they drink to excess ;
  • Young people are the most difficult to reach and the least likely to be receptive to prevention messages.
  • Everyone knows the slogan. 95% of Quebecers say they know the Éduc’alcool slogan, "La modération a bien meilleur goût / Moderation is always in good taste"
