BLOOD ALCOHOL CALCULATOR
Éduc’alcool developed this handy tool to help you anticipate your blood alcohol content (BAC) based on how much you expect to drink. Ideally, you should make the calculation before the start of the evening, but you can also do it as you go. Either way, the point is to control your alcohol intake and make the most responsible decisions.
Use the planner to track your BAC from the moment you have your first drink until all the alcohol has left your body. Obviously, the figures are approximate only and have no legal value.
And remember: even the most accurate calculator can’t replace your own good judgement. This tool is designed to help you make the right decision, not make the decision for you.
Did you know?
- There is the same amount of alcohol in one regular beer (341 ml/12 oz, 5% alcohol), one glass of wine (142 ml/5 oz, 12% alcohol), one glass of fortified wine (85 ml/3 oz, 20% alcohol) and one shot of spirits (43 ml/1.5 oz, 40% alcohol).
- If two people drink the same amount of alcohol, the heavier person will have a lower BAC. But being overweight does not protect you from getting drunk. Fat tissue contains less water than muscle tissue, so the more body fat you have, the less water there is to dilute the alcohol.
- If a man and a woman of the same weight drink the same amount of alcohol, the man will usually have a lower BAC than the woman, because men have less body fat, proportionately speaking, and a higher body water content than women.
- If your stomach is empty, the alcohol in a standard drink will be absorbed in 20-30 minutes and you’ll feel the effects very quickly.
My blood alcohol content
will be 0,00 mg/100 ml
This graph shows how your blood alcohol concentration evolves over the course of an evening.
In Quebec, the legal limit for driving is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood (.08). This applies to everyone except people driving with a probationary licence or learner's permit, in wich case the legal limit is zero (0 mg). Nonetheless, it is always best to be sober whenever you get behind the wheel.
If you want to drive safely and legally, your blood alcohol level must be lower than 0.08.
