For an abuse-free Holiday Season Éduc’alcool circulates three-quarters of a million “Season’s Greetings” cards in Quebec

The message for the 2009 campaign is Aux fêtes, il y a des choses qu’on préfère ne pas voir/savoir (During the Holidays, there are some things people prefer not to see/know). This continues along the same lines at the highly successful 2007 and 2008 campaigns. All the campaigns highlight the words and actions of people who drink too much and experience remorse when they sober up. The scenes take place at office parties and family gatherings.
The first card features an obviously drunk employee doing a ridiculous striptease in front of his alarmed and mocking co-workers as he chants Tout le monde tout nu ! (Everyone take it all off!). At the bottom of the card, it says: Aux fêtes, il y a des choses qu’on préfère ne pas voir (At Holiday parties, there are some things we’d rather not see). The second card shows a tipsy woman sitting on Santa’s lap, yelling at the top of her lungs Hon… J’ai pas été sage cette année (I was not a very good girl this year). The line at the bottom reads: Aux fêtes, il y a des choses qu’on ne veut pas savoir (At Holiday parties, there are some things we’d rather not know). On the back of both cards it says: Prendre un coup, c’est pas un cadeau !
As always, Éduc’alcool uses its trademark humour to remind Quebecers most effectively that moderation is always in good taste, even at Christmas and New Year’s parties.
The purpose of the campaign is to make alcohol abuse less socially acceptable, even when it’s occasional and even during the Holiday Season. The cards focus on the consequences of what people say and do when they drink too much. But the goal is not to spoil anybody’s fun. Moderation shouldn’t be seen as punishment! In fact, drinking moderately keeps you in the game and makes the fun all the more enjoyable.
Posters featuring the campaign theme will be going up in bar and restaurant restrooms across Quebec.
Éduc’alcool hopes everyone in Quebec will send the cards to everyone they know. In this way, the cards serve a useful purpose and help spread the message of moderation.
