In a brief presented to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux regarding hours of sale for alcohol in grocery stores, Éduc’alcool noted that researchers do not agree on the real impact on excessive drinking of business hours in these establishments. It therefore did not take a position on the topic.
Nevertheless, it was adamant that consumers be given guidelines, and stated that drinking choices are a matter of individual freedom.
The brief also stated Éduc’alcool’s belief in the importance of supporting Quebecers in exercising this freedom, in accordance with values that are commonly accepted, shared and pursued.
Éduc’alcool offered to cooperate with authorities tasked with making people more accountable. It suggested that awareness campaigns be developed as laws affecting human values evolve, and said it was ready to contribute to that process.
